Lily James is queen of new romantic dressing on the LFW FROW
We're almost halfway through fashion month with the final London Fashion Week shows rounding off before the editors, celebrities and fashion aficionados head onto Paris. And while the endless events not to mention the travel may be physically tiring, luckily the style inspo – both on and off the runway – is showing no signs of slowing down.
As well as saving every chic street style look to our camera rolls ready to recreate in our own wardrobes ASAP, we've been drooling over the stunning celeb 'fits that have been occupying the FROW. Did you see Blake Lively's *stunning* nude, gold sequinned jumpsuit at Michael Kors’ NYFW show? Or what about Rita Ora's XXL flares that doubled as an ABBA tribute and trip hazard in one?
But today, we're talking about Lily James whose grungey autumn look caught our eye at last night's Erdem show.
Naturally, the actress was repping the designer in a cropped grey sweater embellished with a black beaded floral pattern. She paired the knit with a voluminous black tiered maxi skirt that featured a thigh-high slit up the front to perfectly show off Lily's black heeled sandals with straps that laced up her leg. Oversized gold and pearl statement earrings completed the look.
Lily's look perfectly nailed the new romantic style of dressing popularised in the early '80s. Inspired by historical time periods, traditional items of clothing were given a romantic and glamorous update in the choice of fabrics and extravagant added details (this was the '80s after all, when more was definitely more). Think full-sleeved frilly pirate shirts and velvet brocade jackets complete with gold braiding.
Her beauty look further leant into the new romantic aesthetic. While her grey manicure and pedicure coordinated perfectly with her cosy jumper, elevated thanks to the exquisite detailing, her touseled hair added a romantic feel to her whole ensemble.
Yep, we love Lily's modern take on new romantic dressing. History lesson over, class dismissed.
