Things took an unexpected turn on The Project on Tuesday night when one of the hosts was escorted off set.

Peter Helliar, known for his signature comedic streak, was approached by a security guard after one of his jokes about late socialite Gloria Vanderbilt didn’t quite hit the mark.

The TV host was speaking about the personality who passed away earlier this week at age 95, and in way of a celebrity tribute, introduced an unrelated clip.

The video featured Brett Hull, the vice president of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, singing Laura Branigan’s Gloria, which is the club’s victory anthem.

Peter’s co-hosts on the night, Waleed Aly, Lisa Wilkinson and Magda Szubanski, were left amused by the TV host’s joke, before a man in a security vest stepped in.

“That's too much... come on!” the security guard said before he escorted him out of the Channel Ten studio.

“Unbelievable... You can't say anything!” the comedian quipped as he was forced out of his chair.

Of course, it was all a prank in the name of some good fun, but nonetheless a memorable moment from the episode.

The 2019 TV Week Logie Awards are coming up, and the cast of The Project is expected to attend television’s night of nights.

We wonder if they’ll have any fun red carpet pranks up their sleeves come June 30.
