Otter reunited with its mum will make you cry

A two-day-old sea otter pup was successfully reunited with its mum, thanks to an animal rescue group.

The team from California’s Marine Mammal Centre discovered the strayed baby otter late last month.

While they are uncertain about how the pup got separated, they hypothesised on their Facebook page, “A likely explanation... either a boat came by, or the very strong tide in the area that day made the baby float away,” or, “Perhaps she was an inexperienced mum who didn't know what to do next.”

Because the pup was so fresh, the team were afraid it wouldn’t survive long without its mum. So they contacted sea otter biologist, Mike Harris to help try and locate the pup’s estranged mother.

The video depicts the team on a boat with Harris holding up the pup over the water, showing her to a group females swimming in the Morro Bay Harbour.

Suddenly one female swims up close to the boat and the team are overjoyed.

Harris then tosses the pup into the water, and in no time, the excited mum scoops her baby up and swims away with it in her arms.

The moment the mum realises the baby is hers, is the most beautiful and moving thing you’ll see today.
