Is This A Circle Or Not?

Remember "the dress" that drove everyone insane? Was it black and blue, or white and gold? (Clearly, it was blue).

Well, a new study released by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology wants to confuse you again - and this time it's all to do with how you perceive a certain shape.

Look at the picture above and decide for yourself whether you would classify it as circle.

If you're rolling your eyes and thinking, "it's clearly a circle", then the study says you're probably a "liberal thinker" - ie, you support climate change, LBGT rights etc.

If you think the shape is way too imperfect to be a circle, you're more likely to be a conservative who "believes in a small government and a strong military".

But like all studies, this one isn't perfect either. A quick whip around the Yahoo7 office revealed that some people view the shape as a circle, but a "drunk one, drawn by a child", while others are adamant it can't be anything but.

According to the research, it's all about how flexible we are - and if you're more on the conservative, perfectionist side, you're more likely to argue that the 'circle' is an unfamiliar shape.

More liberal people are more tolerant, says the study, so they're happy to accept the circle as a circle, despite its unconventional shape.
