Library to temporarily close for revamp

Work to upgrade the library in Burton upon Trent is set to begin next month.

Staffordshire County Council said the project would see the ground floor of the building repurposed into a "vibrant, multi-purpose, accessible and inclusive space".

The £1.3m scheme will also create a mini-theatre and an area for children.

The building is set to close on 1 July to allow a temporary library to be set up in the former cafe space.

The temporary service will then open on 8 July.

Mostly funded by the local authority, it said the revamp would also "provide better space for enjoying books" and other social and learning activities.

It follows investments at other libraries in Codsall, Lichfield, Tamworth, Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
