Liam Hemsworth files for divorce from Miley Cyrus

Court documents obtained by US publication The Blast suggest Liam Hemsworth has made it official, filing divorce papers less than two weeks after the couple’s split was announced.

According to the documents, the filing was made in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday morning, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

The docs note that the pair married just seven months ago on Dec. 23, 2018, but the date of separation so far is ‘TBD’. It also says that they have a prenup, so Hemsworth requested that no spousal support be awarded to either party.

The filing comes just days after Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter were reportedly seen in a nightclub getting hot and heavy generating a lot of R-rated buzz around the Soho House outing in West Hollywood on Friday night.

A tumultuous time

The same day that very public display of affection reportedly took place, Miley released a new breakup anthem, “Slide Away,” that left fans of the couple divided some saying it was too much dirty laundry, others standing up for the pop star.

The song made reference to being fed up with drug and alcohol use. Not so coincidentally, sources from Miley’s side reportedly told multiple media outlets that she had fought to save her marriage but part of their problems were around Liam drinking and using certain drugs.

The song also referenced The Hills — the show new flame Kaitlynn appeared on with her ex Brody Jenner.

Liam hasn’t publicly commented on the song, but his fans came to his defence with more than one lamenting ‘poor Liam’ had been done dirty.

Despite the scorching lyrics, a source for Miley told People magazine she “isn’t trying to hurt” Liam and the song was her way to tell her story “without having to say anything at all”.

The pair speak out

News of the split broke on the 10th of August shortly before Miley was spotted on vacation with Kaitlynn — who was newly broken up from Jenner — and the women were photographed kissing and otherwise steaming things up.

Liam broke his silence on social media about the split a few days later. He wished her “nothing but health and happiness going forward,” but said he wouldn’t otherwise be speaking out about the private matter.

Hemsworth’s divorce filing may be a surprise to Cyrus. The pair, who met on the set of 2010’s The Last Song, had broken up several times over the last decade. And, at least initially, Miley sources were saying that she was in no rush to get divorced.

Liam left California, where he lived with Cyrus and their pets, and returned to his native Australia whule the drama went down.

He’s been staying with his brother Chris Hemsworth and has been spotted hanging out with friends and surfing.
