LeAnn Rimes Takes It Back with a Stripped-Down Version of Her “Coyote Ugly ”Classic, 'Can't Fight the Moonlight'

LeAnn Rimes was "lost in the rhythm."

The two-time Grammy winner, 42, hit the stage at The Lodge at Blue Sky in Park City, Utah, on Friday, Nov. 15 during the Auberge Second Annual Concert Series presented by Mercedes-Benz. There, she performed a slew of hits, including "How Do I Live," "Spaceship" and "Can't Fight the Moonlight" from the cult classic film Coyote Ugly.

In a video, the singer is filmed belting the song's memorable chorus, "You can try to resist/ Try to hide from my kiss/ But you know, but you know that you/ Can't fight the moonlight/ Deep in the dark, you'll surrender your heart/ But you know, but you know that you/ Can't fight the moonlight, no/ You can't fight it/ It's gonna get to your heart."

In the movie, the song, which became the film's theme, is written by the main character, Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo). As the movie comes to a close, the tune becomes Violet's big break into the music industry after Rimes (as herself) records it.

The original movie, which was released in 2000, starred Perabo, 48, John Goodman, Tyra Banks, Maria Bello, Bridget Moynahan and Izabella Miko. The film follows Violet as she heads to New York City to pursue her songwriting dreams. But quickly, her day job as a waitress at Coyote Ugly overtakes her music pursuits.

Ahead of Rimes' throwback to the fan-favorite movie, star Banks said in a 2020 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show that there are conversations "about trying to do Coyote Ugly 2 or a series."

Rimes' recent performance isn't the first time she's paid homage to the film. Last November, she shared a video of herself reenacting a scene from Coyote Ugly

“Hey, can I get a water?” someone asks behind the camera as Rimes stands behind a bar at Coyote Ugly Piccadilly in London.

“Hey Lil, do we serve water in this bar?” Rimes yells, to which the entire bar shouts in response, “Hell no, H2O!” Rimes then smiles and sprays a drink at the camera.

“Do we serve water in this bar…? if you know, you know… ❌ 💦,” the star wrote in her caption, wearing a pair of blue jeans and a sheer white top. “#hellnoh20 #coyoteugly #cantfightthemoonlight #london.” She set the video, naturally, to "Can't Fight the Moonlight."
