Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen says he once attempted to get sacked from Changing Rooms by designing an erotic room — only for the occupants to fall in love with it.

The designer and TV personality told Metro he was shocked when his bizarre creation actually improved the sex life of the couple living there.

"There was one room that I deliberately did to try and get sacked," the 56-year-old confessed.

He added: "So I basically didn’t do anything in it at all apart from an incredibly erotic four poster bed cut out of MDF.

"And then the contributor I was working with painted some really rather nastily erotic murals which looked more like copulating cutlets all over the wall, and then I just scattered a load of rose petals on the floor."

Llewelyn-Bowen said that both he and host Carol Smillie were certain the room was so awful it would mark the end of his time on the show.

So he was stunned when the owners of the house fell in love with the unusual design and left it untouched for the next six years.

He said: "[They] absolutely loved it to the extent that they were saying that, not only has it really changed their lives, it’s completely and utterly mended their sex life."

The designer revealed the occupants ultimately used part of the design to create a garden home for their collection of exotic tortoises.

Changing Rooms ran on the BBC between 1996 and 2004, with Llewelyn-Bowen eventually stepping up from the roster of designers to take on hosting duties.

It has recently been revived for Channel 4, with Llewelyn-Bowen centre stage along with Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson and a new team of home improvement experts.
