Land of Women’s Eva Longoria and Santiago Cabrera Talk Long-Awaited Finale Kiss: ‘We Had the Fit of Giggles’
After several close calls, Wednesday’s Land of Women Season 1 finale finally delivered the kiss we’ve all been waiting for.
Since the Apple TV+ dramedy’s premiere, the sexual tension between Gala (played by Eva Longoria) and Amat (Star Trek: Picard’s Santiago Cabrera) has been overwhelming, to say the least. (Read full premiere recap.) We nearly got a kiss out of the two of them at the end of Episode 5, only to be interrupted by Gala’s buffoon husband, Fred (Sex Education‘s James Purefoy), who almost got his entire family killed.

Then, in Episode 6, just as Amat and Gala were plotting their escape from Fred’s life for good, the pair shared their first smooch. (Finally!) TVLine spoke to Longoria and Cabrera about their characters’ big moment, which, it turns out, wasn’t as dreamy to film as it looked on screen.
“I remember the first time we had to kiss, we had the fit of giggles because we’re such good friends,” Longoria revealed. “We’ve known each other forever and so it is funny to do those romantic scenes. It’s always weird, no matter who you’re with.”
But the kiss didn’t necessarily tie up the loose ends of Gala and Amat’s relationship. The Season 1 finale ended with the pair seemingly committing vehicular manslaughter (yikes!) and Amat receiving the unexpected news that he is going to be a father (yay?).
“Yeah, it’s like you think it’s all going to get resolved and it’s all ready, the world is ready, and then something happens and of course it got messed up again,” Cabrera said.
And that dramatically delightful will-they-won’t-they dynamic was something that Longoria, who also serves as executive producer, advocated for when creating the series.
“My whole thing is, I hate when characters, especially — obviously — women, are saved by men in the show,” Longoria shared. “Like they’re the answer. ‘If I just found love, everything would be fine!’ And that’s not the case in life, and that’s not what I wanted to do.”
On the contrary for Gala, it seems like if she’d just jettison these bothersome men altogether, she could live in the Land of Women in peace!
