How the The LadyGang Podcast Hosts Get Live Show-Ready, from 'Jactails' to Lots of Leg Shimmer
Becca Tobin, Keltie Knight and Jac Vanek take PEOPLE behind the scenes of their “You Never Forget Your First” tour
Almost a decade before everyone from reality stars to real estate agents (and reality star real estate agents) had a podcast, there was The LadyGang. Created by actress Becca Tobin, entertainment journalist Keltie Knight and branding entrepreneur Jac Vanek in 2015, the podcast was based on a mission to make women feel less alone by sharing everything (butt-enhancing leggings, sex playlists and gastrointestinal issues are just some topics discussed on the show.)
Now, with over 250 million downloads, 159K Instagram followers and one New York Times best-selling advice book, they’re putting their signature phrase — “we’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time” — into practice with their first live tour. Sponsored by Clearstem Skincare, the “You Never Forget Your First” tour is filled with costumes, contests, trivia, plus dancing and singing. In other words: It’s a LadyGang fan fever dream.
We got a behind the scenes look at how they get show-ready as they embark on the last six dates including NYC, Toronto, Atlanta, Nashville, Phoenix and San Diego.
Little Miss Bossy Pants
Keltie is usually the last one to get ready because she's too busy bossing everyone around and ensuring everything is perfect. Since the purpose of this tour was to play small venues and get super close to our LadyGang, we are running all over the country with a tiny crew—one producer and Keltie's assistant, Prince Derek. Here, he's applying more of e.l.f.'s Halo Glow highlighter because, after a 4 a.m. wake-up to get to Chicago, Kelts looked a little tired.
Jactails and Dreams
Jac is usually the first to lock into the "Jactails, "making everyone a pre-show drink. We get ready all together, go over last-minute changes to the shows, and then usually gossip about things we saw on Reddit that day. The podcast really is an extension of our friendship, and we are the same on-stage and off.
Skincare Swag
Becca discovered our tour sponsor, Clearstem Skincare when the products helped her beat her hormonal acne. We are all now obsessed with the brand, and every VIP guest receives a bottle of their new SkinSpray All Day Setting and Healing Mist. This product has truly saved our skin when we take four flights in two days on tour!
DIY Glam
Who needs a glam team when you have the LadyGang? We literally help each other with our hair, makeup, and everything else (like this leg shimmer!). Getting ready with just us three helps us focus on the show and save energy so that we can dance, sing, and laugh at 100% all night.
Shades On
A fan gave us all matching LadyGang sunglasses at our meet and greet, and we played around with them before the show. Fun right?
Anything for the Fans
We're signing some posters for the venue before the show. It means so much to us that our "gang" still shows up for us after almost ten years as a podcast. We see fans at shows who have been listening since the beginning and ones who just found us this year—it's really sweet!
Merch Queens
Before the doors open, we run upstairs and unpack all the merchandise. Lots of times, people think we have a big team with us, but we do everything ourselves. On this tour, we kept our merchandise offerings small, with two tees that Jac designed and autographed copies of our two books, Act Like a Lady and Lady Secrets.
The LadyGang Starter Kit
All these items are lying all over the dressing room, and this sums up a show day: energy drinks, chocolate, makeup, and glitter.
(Dip into the LadyGang's makeup bag with e.l.f.'s Bronzing Drops, Halo Glow Highlight Beauty Wand, Monochromatic Multi-Stick and Brow Laminating Gel.)
Final Fit Check
We always have to get an outfit picture before the show. Our theme for the tour is asking everyone to wear "the good stuff," so we've been rocking glitter, sequins, formal gowns, tiaras, gloves, and anything that makes us feel special (fun fact: all of these looks are from Marshalls!).
Hands In!
One last cheer before we head to the stage. Keltie's already changed into her surprise performance costume, and Prince Derek wears a cape during the show. We just want to have a fun night out with no worries, where our listeners can laugh and forget their own stumbles through ladylife!
LFG!
We still get nervous at every show because we care so much about our fans. We know they spent their hard-earned money on a ticket to see us, and we want their experience to be magical. We always find ways to spoil and interact with them at the shows so they leave, hopefully feeling special. Okay, here we go!
