Yahoo Lifestyle LaTroy Hawkins explains why he once had to call Topps on 'Old Baseball Cards'
LaTroy Hawkins loves pitching, loves his home state of Indiana and even once had to call Topps to ask why he hadn’t had a baseball card recently.
You’ll learn all that and more as the long-time MLB relief pitcher — who pitched an amazing 21 seasons before retiring in 2015 — is this week’s guest on “Old Baseball Cards,” Yahoo Sports baseball-card driven trip down memory lane.
Hawkins joined us on behalf of the Still Got Game Foundation, a recently formed non-profit in which ex-pro athletes have come together to give back and promote social change. Hawkins, along with Torii Hunter, Kenny Lofton and Ken Griffey Jr., are among the group’s board members.
In this episode, we’re opening up 1983 Topps, which brings Hawkins back to his childhood, and 1999 Fleer Ultra, which were within his playing days. He find players ranging from Mike Morgan and Tom Brunansky to Bartolo Colón and Eric Davis.
