The Kardashians are no strangers to the beauty world, I mean we have Kylie Cosmetics, SKKN by Kim and of course Lemme, Kourtney’s supplements brand. The Kar-Jenner sisters have been the catalyst for some of the most iconic beauty moments of recent years and because of this, they hold a place in the Cosmo beauty team's heart for always setting our keyboards alight when they hit the red carpet, or just press post on an Instagram. So, when we heard that our dear KoKo was in town to launch her first foray into beauty (because the sisters’ first foray into scent was all Kim, but more on that later) we just had to get the lowdown on everything about the process, the notes and, of course, what’s next…

Cosmo: Ok, talk to us about the scent: The vibe, the notes… what can people expect when they spray first?

Khloé Kardashian: Well, there's juicy peach, there's praline lavender, crystallised rose petals. Then we have undertones of musk and tonka bean and a woodsy element. So, it really makes it decadent and luxurious. It sounds really sweet, but I think the undertones are what makes it not incredibly youthful. So like, you're not wearing a bath and body works [fragrance].

Cosmo: It's like a grown up, sexy sweetness.

KK: Thank you, Keeks

Cosmo: You’re welcome. And how did you pick the name XO Khloé?

KK: Well, I could barely name my children. It was so hard. It took me a long time to name them, because it's a lot of pressure.

Cosmo: Kids names are forever…

KK: It's a forever thing! [laughs]. So, I was like, you know what you're gonna get? XO Khloé, [laughs], hugs and kisses. And I just love, love. So it was perfect.

Cosmo: Did you consult any of your family when it came to creating the XO Khloé?

KK: Actually, I didn't even tell them I was doing a scent because I didn't want to hear everyone’s opinion. This was something that was really special and vulnerable for me, and I always wanted to do it, but I was always really intimidated to do something on my own.

I took a hit of my confidence in my 30s, and then during the end of my 30s, I was like, you know what? Screw that. For my fourth decade of life I want to do things where I'm pushing myself and do things that are on my own and things that I want to do what I've been too afraid to do. And so I did this, and I didn't tell anyone.

When I was trying on so many different scents, Kylie was like, ‘You smell so good, what is that?’. I go, ‘Stop. You really like it?’ And then that's sort of how the word spread. But I wanted them to naturally compliment it.

Cosmo: And I think so many people probably think that you guys do everything together. So, it must be nice to be like, no, this was all me!

KK: This was all me. But it was also a lot of pressure because if it doesn't do well, then I'm like, 'Oh, well, that was all me'. But when you because I've done a fragrance with my sisters, but it was under Kim's beauty brand, and so it was sort of her guidance, her parameters, which was great, yeah, but if it didn't do well, I was like, ‘Well, girl, it's on you’. So, this was a big step for me, just to do something in my own in the beauty world.

Cosmo: Do you think you'll be expanding the family of fragrances?

KK: I do. This is something that I took a long time to work on, and so I don't know when, but it was such an incredible process for me. And I love the creativity. I really, really enjoyed it. So, if it does well, no… when it does well – manifestation, I hope to slowly think of a second one, but I'm not in a rush.

Cosmo: And can you talk us through the process of creating a perfume? What were the hard parts?

KK: The hardest part was the scent. I went through over 100 different mods trying to come up with the scent, and that was the most challenging because I'm trying to articulate something that I'm either seeing or I'm smelling. But I don't have a perfumer's nose, so sometimes I might say something that they're like, oh, I don't know about this…

Cosmo: Don’t you think that's good though, that you’re not a perfumer. Because the perfumer is the science and you're like the emotions almost?

KK: It was great working with the team, because they taught me things like… moss. Moss is not something I like it all on its own. But they said, you need the moss to sort of level out how sweet everything else is. And I was like, okay, let's try it. It was a great collaboration.

Cosmo: And do you think your taste and fragrance has shifted a bit?

KK: Oh my gosh, I used to be a huge Thierry Mugler Angel girl when I was in like in junior high and that's very heavy and very prominent.

Cosmo: Yeah it’s one you smell before the person enters the room.

KK: Exactly! But you couldn't tell me nothing. I was like, ‘I am an adult’ and I just remember how grown I felt. And so that is not necessarily a scent I would wear now, but it's a great scent and if I smell it on someone I love where it transports me to – the nostalgia, yes. So I love that but my scent has definitely, I think, gotten more subdued.

Cosmo: I think XO Khloé is a more personal scent.

KK: It's very light, and it dries really well. It's not overbearing. And when you leave the room, it leaves with you...
