Kyle Sandilands slams 'archaic' reason WA residents 'don't want' Covid jab

Radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands has blasted WA residents after a KIIS FM staffer from Perth revealed the 'frustrating' reason many are apparently not wanting to get a Covid jab.

Western Australia is lagging behind compared to the rest of the nation's vaccine rollout, with just under 54 per cent of the total eligible population double-dose vaccinated as of Tuesday.

Video producer Jermaine D'Vauz claimed during a chat on the The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday, that many residents of WA would rather stay 'covid zero' than risk reopening to travellers if they hit the vaccination targets.

"People in Perth are so obsessed with it being 'Covid zero'. They feel like because they are so remote that it's 'us versus them'," he told Kyle and his co-host Jackie O Henderson.

"There's some people that I know that won't get vaccinated because they don't want to open up. They want it to continue to be 'Covid zero'," Jermaine added.

Kyle, who has been an advocate for getting a covid vaccination, including his penning of a ‘Get Vaxxed Baby’ jingle, slammed that line of thought as "archaic".

"That's demented. The whole place will go broke," he added.

With Jackie O adding: "They can't all think like that, surely. They must want to travel."

Kyle added: "It's Western Australia, mate. It's a different world over there."

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has ruled out any early reopening of the state to arrivals from NSW and Victoria this year, even after Queensland announced it would drop the border restrictions by Dec 17.

"We’re not going to do that. When you are vaccinated, you can still spread the virus," Mr McGowan said, reports The Australian.

"Imagine if we open up and do what they’re proposing to do before Christmas and then we have to put in place mask-wearing requirements and restrictions on the number of people going to restaurants and cafes, and how many people can come to Christmas lunch. I don’t really want to do that."

Kyle has been very vocal about his support of the Covid vaccines, with his song 'Get Vaxxed Baby' - a remix of Vanilla Ice’s ‘Ice Ice Baby’ - saying: “Alright stop, vaccinate and listen.”

Other lyrics in the song are: "Too many people think vax is a scandal, take two shots and COVID’s handled."

The host told listeners that he wrote the song because "the only way an Australian will respond to anything is with a good jingle", and confirmed that he wasn’t paid by the government to make it.

It was also recently reported that a KIIS FM producer who was anti-vax was being made to work from home. Kyle called him a "Stupid prick" when he told listeners about the dilemma.
