Kristin Cavallari Once Found a Masked Intruder Crawling By Her Bed
"You guys, he had a ski mask on, full black arms, black pants, the full thing."
Kristin Cavallari has recounted a terrifying encounter with a home intruder that took place in 2020. As the Laguna Beach reality star explained on her Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast, she woke up to find a man in a ski mask crawling on her floor of her bedroom.
At the time, Cavallari, her then-husband, Jay Cutler, and their three children, Camden, Jaxon, and Saylor were staying in a gated resort in the Bahamas. That day, Cavallari had laid out jewelry from her brand Uncommon James on a counter in the closet. "Our HVAC unit broke, so we had workers in that day and they were fixing everything," she said.
She went on: “That night I had [my son] Cam in the bed with me. Cam and I were sleeping. And I woke up to a man crawling on my bedroom floor.”
Cavallari recalled feeling "out of it" then saying, "What the fuck are you doing."
“This man stands up, runs out the door, and, you guys, he had a ski mask on, full black arms, black pants, the full thing. And I went ‘oh, fuck.’”
Although Cavallari was terrified, she didn't yell out. “Because Cam was in the bed with me, I didn’t yell. I didn’t scream," she said, explaining that she remained calm. "You think in those moments that that’s what you’d do, but your instincts just kick in. I honestly felt like I was in Mission Impossible.”
Soon, she realized just how serious the encounter had been. She left the bedroom to find her husband and found him with their other two children. “Once I woke Jay up, then I got really nervous,” she said. “Then I start [to get] like, really scared. I started shaking, and I was able to process then what just happened. But until that point, I was not scared. I was really calm. You just are running off of instinct.”
The intruder took their cash which they had storied in a backpack. They later found out it had been one of the men who had been working on their HVAC unit.
Cavallari never told her three children about the break in.
“That's just one that I think would really scare them,” she explained, adding, “I will not tell them, probably, until they're adults. Because I just think some things kids do not need to know. And scary stuff like that, I will take that one.”
Cavallari launched her jewelry brand, Uncommon James, in 2017. "The Uncommon James customer is someone who wants to look and feel great without spending a fortune on great products," she said of the line to InStyle earlier this year.
