Yahoo Lifestyle Kobe Bryant posthumously wins Governors award for philanthropy beyond the court
Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant posthumously won the Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award on Saturday.
Bryant was given the award for his “philanthropy, community building and inspiration beyond the court.” Legendary composer John Williams accepted the award for Bryant.

The Governors award is given to an individual, organization or company that made “an outstanding, innovative and visionary achievement in the arts, sciences or management of television as well as a substantial contribution to the greater Los Angeles area,” according to the Emmys’ website.
Bryant was nominated for the award by Spectrum SportNet, which broadcasts Lakers game.
Bryant died in January in a helicopter crash. He and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were among the nine victims of the crash. Bryant was 41.
In 2018, Bryant won an Oscar for Best Animated Short for “Dear Basketball.”
