Shoppers are loving retail giant Kmart’s inclusivity with the department store launching a new range of family doll sets that also include same-sex couples.

The Family Playset – Assorted sets, which cost $15 each and come in three variations, are quickly selling out across various stores.

Each set comes with either a family with two dads, a family with two mums, or a hetero-couple, with two children, a pet, a stroller, and a picnic basket and food.

Shoppers loved that it presented an opportunity for children with same-sex parents to see their own family reflected on store shelves, with the response online being largely positive.

“Great that kids can go to the shops and see a representation of their family unit,” one person commented online.

“Glad that all children can finally buy a family set that represents themselves and their families. This is so so amazing,” another agreed.

There were of course some who found the idea less appealing.

“Oh for crying out loud!!! Can’t we just let kids be kids!! This is getting ridiculous,” was one angry comment.

Most had no issue, but some did point out that the doll sets were still lacking in racial diversity.

“Be great if they were more racially diverse,” was one comment.

“All white of course. No one of colour exists as a family according to Kmart,” another person shared on Twitter.
