A mum has come up with a genius trick to create a simple yet stylish shelving unit using four $19 shelves from Kmart.

And the best thing - the whole unit looks almost identical to similar furniture pieces being sold for over $600 online.

Sharing her creation to a Kmart fan page on Facebook, the mum revealed she used black cable ties to join each separate self together, and screwed wheels to the bottom.

“My little Kmart hack using ‘shelf with cage’,” she wrote.

“When attaching the wheels do make sure they are attached as close to the corner as possible,” she added in a later comment. “This will allow the weight of the whole trolley to be evened out and make it more stable.”

Each shelf is sold in store and online for just $19, meaning the whole piece costs less than $100.

The idea was very popular, the post quickly being shared across the social network, and gaining over 200 comments in just a few hours.

“I think I’m going to steal this idea for my flat shoes and thongs in my wardrobe” one person wrote.

“This is awesome,” another said.

And one person even pointed out that a similar piece is being sold online for over $650.

“Holy s***! This sells for $659 on Ishka. Well done,” she wrote.

Indeed it does... and it’s actually currently on sale, down from almost $1,500!

Even another site in the UK sells similar product for £419.99 - that’s $765 AUD.

Talk about saving some coin!
