Kieran Culkin Explained Why His Kids Haven’t Watched “Home Alone” Yet, And His Reasoning Makes Total Sense

It’s finally December, which means families across the country will be getting cozy for the holiday season and making time to rewatch the Home Alone movies.

However, that may not be the case in the home of Kieran Culkin, who just recently explained why his young kids have yet to be introduced to the classic Christmas films — which feature some familiar faces.

For context, there are six Home Alone movies, and the first two — which came out in the early ‘90s and are undeniably the most popular of the franchise — star Kieran’s older brother, Macaulay Culkin, as Kevin McCallister.

Notably, Kieran appears in the films, too, playing the role of Fuller McCallister, Kevin’s younger cousin. However, the strong family ties to the films don’t mean that Kieran has been rushing to show them to his kids — Kinsey, 5, and Wilder, 3 — who he shares with his wife Jazz Charton.

“There’s still some scary parts,” the Emmy-winning Succession star told E! News on the red carpet at The Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards in NYC last night.

“For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a 3-year-old,” he added.

Despite this, Kieran clarified that Home Alone is definitely on the family watchlist and that the kids might be ready to see it for the first time this year.

As is very well known, Home Alone was the movie that skyrocketed Macaulay’s career in 1990, leading him to become one of the best-known child stars in Hollywood. And despite also being a child actor, Kieran has previously said he didn’t wish to be in his brother’s shoes at the time.

“As a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That sucks for him,’” Kieran told Esquire last year, looking back on Macaulay’s celebrity rise as a child. “Poor fucking guy. He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality.”

For his part, it sounds like Macaulay wasted no time in introducing his and Brenda Song’s kids to the world of Home Alone, revealing in 2023 that their then-2-year-old son Dakota — the oldest of their two children — is already a huge fan.

Is it just me that always forgets Kieran was in Home Alone?! Will you be watching the movies this year? LMK in the comments.
