TikTok teens pull 'mind-boggling' stunt for illegal booze

It’s 10 p.m., do you know where your children are? If they’re on TikTok, we have a hunch.

Teens are dressing up as law-abiding, mask-wearing elderly people to try to score alcohol without a fake ID. The “prank” has taken the social media platform by storm with TikTokers recording themselves pulling off the stunt and racking up millions of views.

The videos star teenagers applying drawn-on wrinkles and wigs, some even lucky enough to have access to a walker or cane for a more authentic look. It’s unclear how successful the teenagers are or if a lot of them are just participating in the funny makeover part of the trend.

A standout example would be the girl who wore a headscarf and costume jewelry into a store to buy wine and then twerked on the side of the road, still in costume, with two bottles.

Considering 80-year-olds are not the typical demographic for White Claw or whipped cream flavored Smirnoff vodka, it’s only about time shop clerks catch onto the movement and figure out a way to safely identify underaged shoppers without having them take off masks.

A lot of the videos have been taken down or made private as of recent. According to TikTok’s community guidelines, content will be removed “that offers the purchase, sale, or trade of unlawfully acquired goods.”

Remember kids, underage drinking is illegal. Not only does alcohol have a damaging effect on anyone under 16, but more than 30 states in the U.S. have “social host” laws that punish adults who permit underage drinking on their property — even if they didn’t supply it. Even if you’re just doing it to be part of the viral trend, your mom is going to be so mad when she figures out what TikTok is.
