Kickstarter wants to make building your own boat a lot more affordable

Hulltimate Boat Systems aims to make boating accessible and affordable to all.

The watercraft is spacious, customizable and assembles in less than five minutes. The yellow raft’s smallest size is 4 feet wide, 8 feet long and can be used as a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) for two, while its larger size, at 5 feet wide, 10 feet long, can be used as a party barge.

“Unfortunately, boating with family and friends is out of reach for many people for a number of reasons,” founder Vic Castelli stated. “It is expensive, boats are difficult to transport and you need a large space to store them to name a few obstacles. That is why I created Hulltimate.”

The way it works is that customers receive two hulls in the mail. Then users provide their own piece of plywood cut to their size preference and attach it to the two hulls using its included bolts.

“This whole process takes less than 5 minutes or about a tenth of the time it takes to assemble a BBQ from that same hardware store,” the Kickstarter claims. “You can also attach a trolling motor or gas engine with ease.”

A Hulltimate Boat System costs about $250. While it’s not on the market there’s still time to back its Kickstarter. Although it has already passed its $25,008 goal.

Castelli is a boat-lover himself. Growing up his family made financial sacrifices so that he could experience the water. He’s hoping with Hulltimate other families won’t have to.

“That’s why I came up with the idea of a modular inexpensive but capable boat that anybody can afford,” he said. “I want everyone to have the same opportunities to create incredible memories with their families and friends that I have had.”
