Kelly Ripa, 53, uses these 4 lip-enhancing products for a plumper on-air pout

It's true: Our lips start to look thinner as we age due to a natural decrease in collagen. If you want to plump them up to their youthful glory, you can opt for specialty lip glosses or go to a professional for filler. But some people, like Kelly Ripa, simply know the trade secrets for how to fake it. The television host shared her trick for instantly fuller-looking lips on Instagram, and it's a combination of two lip liners, a lipstick, and a gloss, all in nude hues.

Quick overview

While some people assumed the star got lip fillers this summer, she assured her fans she did not and it's a simple makeup trick she does before the cameras roll. "This is a trick I learned on Instagram," she said. "Although I do enjoy the shape of my lips, like all women my age, my upper lip seems to be being sucked down into middle earth."

First, Ripa traces the outside of her upper lip line with a dark brown lip liner or eye shadow — hers is the Chanel Style Ombre et Contour eye crayon in Contour Clair (12). Then, she colors in her whole upper lip with it. She doesn't trace or fill in the bottom lip, because she says for her, that one is "fine" or full enough looking.

Next, she uses her go-to Mac lip liner in Spice and traces the outside of her original pencil line on the top lip. Then, she traces her bottom natural lip line as usual, and fills in her bottom lip with the pencil as well. Then, she uses her Mac lip liner to fill in and blend her top lip until it looks more natural.

Finally, she applies her Rinna Beauty Icon Collection Lipstick in Stripped (yes, it's lippy Lisa Rinna's brand) all over and tops it off with Rinna Beauty's Larger Than Life Lip Plumping Oil in Illusion.

"Would I do this if I wasn't on camera? No," she cheekily admits. But if you want a fuller look, this is one way to get it.

Another way Ripa plumps her lips? She hydrates them with the popular Laneige Lip Mask. In an interview with Glamour, Ripa noted that she applies it before bed because it keeps her lips "nice and juicy." As its name suggests, it's formulated to be an overnight treatment that smoothes and hydrates as you sleep, but many people love the shine so much, they use it as a daily lip balm as well.

There are a multitude of ways to add a little volume to your pout, but if you're going out and you love a little color, you can give Ripa's on-air look a try. You can shop the products she used below!

This Chanel pencil is actually meant for your eyes. You can use it as an eyeshadow or eye liner — or use it on your lips like Ripa does.
