It all started on the Nov. 15 episode of her eponymous talk show, where she asked guests Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, Bonnie Hunt, and Kiernan Shipka if they think “Let It Go” from Frozen and “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music qualify as Christmas songs.
Hunt responded that she doesn’t “think they’re Christmas.” Evans and Simmons agreed, with Shipka chiming in that it “does not sound like Christmas to me.”
Clarkson then quipped “you are not going to like my first Christmas record,” with a laugh.
She clarified that the Disney song is not on the record, but then explained why the Julie Andrews classic made it onto her holiday album.

“Honestly, I blame Oprah, because she started [her favorite things giveaway] in Christmas time, so that’s why it is for me. But it’s a very different version of ‘My Favorite Things,’” said Clarkson.
“I’m still listening because it’s you, you could sing anything,” said Shipka. Johnson jumped into the conversation, asking Clarkson if she’s done a Christmas album and then asking if she has a favorite Christmas song.
Clarkson tried to bring it back to the movie the actors were promoting, Red One, saying that the soundtrack has a Carey holiday song on it “that not everybody picks.”
“How’s it go again?” asked Johnson, but after Clarkson sang a tiny portion of it, he admitted that he was “just getting you to sing,” garnering a round of laughter from the audience.
