Keith Urban Shocks Fans with a Free Concert at an Alabama Gas Station
Buc-ees might be a beloved Southern gas station chain but it’s by no means a concert venue. That didn’t stop Keith Urban from pulling up in his tour bus and putting on a free show, though.
On Saturday, August 17, Keith and his band rolled into Limestone County in Athens, Alabama, to perform what he thought would be a small local show.
“Firstly, I want to say thank you so freaking much for coming out tonight—this is unbelievable,” he said to the crowd in a video posted to the WAFF 48 Instagram page. “I came down to this Buc-ees about a month ago and when I left, I went, ‘It’d be kind of fun to do a show there.’ This is my caveman brain, right? So I’m like, ‘Oh, it’ll be fun. We’ll set up a little stage and some people will come around and hear us play.’”
What he thought would be 100 to 200 fans, though, ended up being hundreds more. “This is why we’ve got this little stage, with the little lights, and the little PA system,” he laughed. “This is freaking me out, so thank you very much for coming out.”
Keith didn’t just perform for the crowd at Buc-ees, though—he whipped up some of the gas station’s signature brisket sandwiches for them, too.
Suffice to say, his fans were over the moon for a free show, and to see up close and in person just how down-to-earth the country star is.
“I just smile watching him just being just a normal man, doing normal things you’re amazing,” one fan exclaimed. “What [do] Keith Urban and my 8-year-old son have in common? Bucees obsessed and they were hanging out jamming to music in Athens on a Friday night,” another fan commented. “My fav country artist in my fav place?! I can’t handle this, it's too good,” someone else wrote. “And this is why I love you so much Keith Urban!!! So humble and just a great all-around guy. Oh and don’t forget talented as all get up,” another fan marveled.
The only question now is, which Buc-ees’ location is next on Keith’s impromptu gas station tour?
