Katie Price has said there were traumatic events that led up to her crashing her car, under the influence of alcohol while disqualified in September last year.

The 43-year-old reality star and mother-of-five - who escaped a jail sentence shortly before Christmas after pleading guilty to the driving offences - admitted she is "ashamed" of what happened but asked people not to judge her.

Price told Good Morning Britain: "The events leading up to it were very traumatic and it's been very traumatic afterwards."

She added: "There's reasons why I got in that car, my mental state, when I'm ready to talk about it all I'll talk about it.

"I feel ashamed about it, but it was all traumatic build-up to it all and the reasons I'm still dealing with now.

"I think people shouldn't judge people - there's always reasons. I'm seeing a therapist."

Price revealed she had now committed to seeing a therapist every week "forever".

She said, "I am in a very good headspace now."

The model and TV star said she is feeling positive about the new year and hopes to marry fiancé Carl Woods in 2022 and have a baby with him.

She said: "This is the year for me; babies, marriage, I want it all. Like I said before, I have found the one with Carl.

"It will be in England, my mum's terminally ill, she can't travel so I would never get married without my mum."

Price began dating Woods in June 2020 and in April last year they announced they were engaged to be married – her seventh engagement.

Price - who has previously spoken about her treatment for cocaine addiction - returned to The Priory rehabilitation clinic following her arrest in September.

The former glamour model - who was declared bankrupt in 2019 - is mother to 19-year-old son Harvey, whose father is footballer Dwight Yorke; she shares Junior, 16, and Princess, 14, with first husband Peter Andre; and Jett, eight, and Bunny, seven, with third husband Kieran Hayler.

She is now registered as disabled after breaking both her feet when she fell from a 25ft wall in Turkey while on holiday in 2020.

Her mother Amy was diagnosed with terminal breathing condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) four years ago.
