Meghan might have received quite a bit of backlash for her “highly inappropriate” New York baby shower in February, but that doesn’t appear to be stopping her from having a second on in the UK.

The 37-yer-old, who is just weeks from welcoming her first child with Prince Harry, is said to be having a second baby shower that will be more intimate than the first.

This time, her mother Doria Ragland, and sister-in-law Kate, who is said to be organising the gathering, will be in attendance.

“Doria is coming to a baby shower here,” a source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper. “It will be a small gathering of five or six people.”

Insiders confirmed to Us Weekly that the Duchess of Cambridge will host the more intimate affair.

“There is still going to be some sort of private baby-centric event for Meghan’s UK people, and Kate will host,” the royal insider told the publication.

“Not sure if it’s a total baby ‘shower’, but you could probably call it that.”

Some of Meghan’s closest friends, including fashion designer Victoria Beckham, are set to attend the baby shower.

The Duchess of Sussex initially planned to stage the event at Frogmore Cottage at Windsor, where she and Harry are poised to raise their firstborn child.

But due to renovation work, the baby shower could instead be held at Buckingham Palace in London.

An extravagant New York shower

It was the baby shower that had the whole world talking. The pregnant former Suits star was pictured outside The Mark hotel in New York, where party planners were seen preparing the venue for the lavish baby shower.

Tall trees, bundles of flowers and a $550 flat-packed crib were pictured being wheeled into the event. Florists were pictured delivering bouquets of pink roses as well as an orange tree – but it was the celebrity guest list that really got people’s tongues wagging.

The celebrations are said to have been organised by Meghan’s best friend and stylist, Jessica Mulroney, (who arrived at the royal wedding in May with the Duchess of Cambridge and the bridesmaids and page boys), tennis star Serena William, actress Priyanka Chopra and George Clooney’s wife Amal Clooney.

Kate skipped the New York affair

Some were surprised to know that Meghan’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton did not attend.

And it seems it might have had something to do with the fact that royals don’t normally have baby showers.

The Duchess of Cambridge didn’t have a baby shower before the birth of any of her three children, and that could be the reason she chose not to attend this one.

Of course, Meghan hasn’t been one to stick to all of the royal rules and protocols, but a royal expert said having a baby shower could be seen as “highly inappropriate”.

“It’s added pressure that they are clearly very wealthy, and a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate. There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves,” ABC News royal expert Victoria Arbiter said.
