Kate Moss, 50, Makes Vulnerable Admission About Posing Topless as a Teen

Kate Moss is one of the most successful supermodels of all time, but some of her earliest and most unforgettable campaigns were apparently some of the most traumatic for the star.

Moss, now 50, opened up about the pressure she was put under to pose topless when she was still just a teenager on the latest episode of fashion designer (and close friend) Bella Freud's Fashion Neurosis podcast.

"At a very young age, I started working and I started doing pictures topless," Moss said.

"And I was very, very conscious of a mole I have on my right t**. I hated it so much, I would cry,” she continued. “I never wanted to be topless. I would cry and I had to get over it because the photographer would be like, ‘If you don’t do this, I’m not going to book you for the next job’, so I had to get over it.”

When Freud asked Moss if she was referring to her famous 1990 shoot with photographer Corinne Day for The Face, in which she posed topless wearing a feathered headdress, she confirmed that the experience made her uncomfortable—and even had an effect on her family.

“I was 15 and I was topless in a magazine and I was still at school,” she said. “Luckily The Face wasn’t sold in Croydon, so I don’t think anyone really saw it, but they heard. They took the piss out of my brother. ‘Your sister’s got her t**s out.’ I think he probably suffered more than I did about it.”

Moss explained that she felt “really shy” at the time, even though Day and her team felt “like family."

“I’d worked with them so many times already that I knew them really well,” she said. “But I still, even after that shoot, I did cry a lot about taking my clothes off with her. I really didn’t want to do it.”
