Kate Middleton Wants to 'Maintain Normality' for George, Charlotte and Louis amid Hospitalization
The Princess of Wales underwent a planned abdominal surgery that will keep her away from royal duties until at least Easter
Kate Middleton wants to keep things as normal as possible for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis amid her hospitalization and recovery for abdominal surgery.
In Kensington Palace's statement revealing the planned surgery, the Princess of Wales, 42, expressed her hope for her three children.
"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private," her team said in the official statement released on Wednesday.
Prince William is also understood to be cutting back on public duties to support his wife during her recovery as well as take care of Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis. The Prince of Wales, 41, will not undertake official duties while Princess Kate is in the hospital or during the early days of her home recovery in Windsor, where the family relocated from London in 2022.

The family of five made their last public appearance together on Christmas. They joined King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family in their annual holiday tradition of attending church before returning to Sandringham House in Norfolk for a traditional turkey feast.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also supported their mom last month at her third annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey. Since 2021, Princess Kate has hosted the holiday event, which is broadcast each year on Christmas Eve.
All three children attend Lambrook School near their Windsor home.
Despite their future royal roles, Princess Kate and Prince William have stressed the importance of giving their kids as normal a childhood as possible — a lot of which stems from Kate's upbringing out of the public eye.
"Those children look pretty happy with life," a palace insider previously told PEOPLE. "A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that's how she grew up. William absolutely loves it."

Kensington Palace announced on Wednesday that the Princess of Wales underwent a "planned abdominal surgery" at The London Clinic the previous day.
"The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery," the statement said. "Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."
In the statement, Kate also apologized for postponing her public work with charities and other organizations.
"The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible," they said in the statement.
