Kate Middleton Is Using Jewelry to Share Secret Messages About Her Health

She and Taylor Swift are apparently Easter egg twins.

Kate Middleton knows how to make a statement with her jewelry choices. After completing her chemotherapy treatment, the princess has been using accessories as a symbol of the highs and lows of her health journey, a designer of a poignant pair of Middleton's earrings has revealed.

The Princess of Wales made a surprise public appearance alongside husband Prince William on October 10; the appearance marked her second unannounced outing after sharing the completion of her chemotherapy treatment on September 9.

Alongside William, she visited to the English city of Southport, where three children were killed in a mass stabbing on July 29 at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party. The royals held meetings with members of the fire, ambulance, and air ambulance crews at the Southport Community Center to learn what it was like responding to the tragic event, and how it has impacted their mental health in the time since.

For the outing, Middleton sported a brown, tea-length peacoat by Alexander McQueen, and paired the jacket with a maroon, polka-dotted pussy-bow top. Accessories were kept minimal, save for a simple pair of gold fern earrings that highlights the Princess of Wales's penchant for hiding Easter eggs—like pop star Taylor Swift—within her jewelry choices.

“Ferns are a symbol of endurance, resilience and new beginnings,” Catherine Zoraida Blackwell, the jeweler who made the fern earrings, told People. “It’s lovely to see her back, doing what she loves, the things she cares about so much about."

This wasn't the first time that Middleton wore pieces by the designer. In fact, the Princess of Wales wore a pair of leaf earrings by Blackwell during a 2012 trip to Malaysia. "Kate was on tour in Malaysia and wore a pair of my earrings to compliment a gold embellished Alexander McQueen gown to attend a state dinner," she added. "It was mind-blowing. It really was a dream moment!"

Of Middleton, the jeweler said that “she’s so good at sending those thoughtful messages and I love that about her. She’s so thoughtful and caring in every way.”
