Kate Middleton has stunned crowds at the Royal Variety Performance in London, stepping out in a show-stopping lace gown which appears to be inspired by the recent see-through dress trend.

The Duchess of Cambridge donned the stunning Alexander McQueen look alongside her husband, Prince William, on Monday night, in their first public appearance since Prince Andrew’s explosive Epstein interview.

The custom-made gown featured a classic sweetheart neckline, sleek black velvet waistband and nude lining inside the body of the dress.

Although Kate’s dress didn’t completely follow every hallmark of the see-through dress trend, it did feature a pair of near-transparent lace sleeves and give the overall appearance of being sheer – which is quite daring for royal standards.

Let’s not forget the Queen’s preference for royal women to wear sheer tights to official events rather than go bare-legged.

Royals’ night out

Adding to the look’s glamour was Kate’s choice to complement her tumbling curls with a more dramatic makeup look than usual including a smokey winged eyeliner.

Prince William proudly accompanied his wife to the event and continued his recent fashion-forward form by donning a sleek black tuxedo.

Third time’s a charm

Offsetting this somewhat risqué feature was a lining which ran beneath the rest of the floor-length look to ensure royal standards were adhered to.

Monday night marked just the third time the duke and duchess had attended the Royal Variety Performance—which is televised across the UK each Christmas.

In 2014, while pregnant with Princess Charlotte, Kate wore a demure black lace floor length gown by American designer, Diane von Furstenberg.

For her second appearance in 2017, while expecting Prince Louis, Kate had a princess perfect moment in a heavily embellished powder blue gown by British designer, Jenny Packham.
