Kate Middleton steps out in $16k designer skirt suit

She’s known as the thrifty Duchess but Kate Middleton took a leaf out of designer-loving Meghan Markle’s book on her latest royal visit.

The 36-year-old Duchess of Cambridge stunned as she stepped out at The Royal Opera House in London yesterday, decked out in a $4,900 skirt suit by Oscar de la Renta.

Meanwhile, across town, her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, was threatening to steal her frugal title, as she was photographed wearing a $45 dress from high street brand, H&M at Mayhew – an animal welfare organisation in North London.

The Duchess of Cambridge went all out for the occasion, pairing her magenta top and skirt with an $888 tote croc pattern handbag from Aspinal.

She also splashed out on a new pair of $942 black and gold heels from Rupert Sanderson.

And while Meghan decided to controversially go without tights for the second time this week, Kate held up the royal rule by donning a black pair.

She finished off her look with a dazzling pair of Asprey Oak Leaf earrings.
