After finally breaking her silence on the rift that’s torn her family apart, Cassandra Thorburn has detailed the abuse she copped from members of the public as news of her split from Today host Karl Stefanovic made headlines around the country.
The mum-of-three has bared all about the shock 2016 split, revealing how she felt she had “been discarded and disposed of” following the end of her 21-year marriage.
Left “gazumped” when Karl walked out on her and their three children Jackson, 18, Ava, 12, and River, 10, Cassandra was then left to deal with the extra stress of being targeted by hateful trolls.
“Jackson, our eldest, had his car vandalised with the words, “I WAKE UP WITH KARL”, written across the back, and I’ve had my tyres let down,” the former journalist told Australian Women’s Weekly.
The 47-year-old’s relationship with her ex was further put under scrutiny when the TV star stepped out with shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough.
Karl, 44, and Jasmine announced their engagement in February, with Cassandra candidly admitting that the man she was married to is dead to her.
“Last year, I declared that Karl really was dead to me, a man I no longer know, but the children still have their father,” she told The Australian Women’s Weekly.
“The flip-side of that is I feel like we’re dead to his family and almost anyone from our old life.
Cassandra’s tell-all has ignited a war of words between the couple, with Karl issuing a statement denying the rift.
“We are disappointed Cass would claim such inflammatory suggestions that we have alienated Karl’s children from our family,” a spokesperson for the Stefanovic family told TheFIX.
“Nothing could be further from the truth.
“Karl regularly co parents his children and has his loving family around them. We refuse to keep a running dialogue of the children.”
