Karl Stefanovic could find it 'very difficult' to revive his career

A media expert has warned former Today show host Karl Stefanovic will find it “very difficult” to revive his career after being axed from the breakfast program late last year.

The television personality, who recently married Jasmine Yarbrough in a lavish wedding in Mexico in December, is set to return to Channel Nine studios in the next few weeks to film scenes for the upcoming season of This Time Next Year.

However media analyst Steve Allan has bluntly said Karl is going to struggle to win over TV audiences this year.

“Who knows what will happen with Karl,” the expert told the Herald Sun.

“The path to reviving his career could be very difficult. In some respects Karl was left wallowing in a mess he created, even if it was unwittingly.”

The expert also warned Karl’s former co-host Georgie Gardner, who he claims could struggle during 2019, stating that breakfast TV “can make or destroy careers”.

The newly revamped Today show panel debuted last week, but viewers slammed the updated panel with Georgie and new co-hosts Deborah Knight, Tom Steinfort, Tony Jones and Brooke Boney. The show saw dismal ratings as a result.

The comments come after Karl’s brother Peter Stefanovic also put himself back on the market with an ad looking for a job.

More specifically, “any upcoming relevant opportunities including ambassador roles and MC/Hosting opportunities”, according to a post shared by his management in media newsletter, Social Diary.

The message informed the industry that “Peter Stefanovic has been on the ground for many of the world’s most recent historic events.

“Peter has covered everything from the Iraq war, Presidential elections, Golden Globes and many more over the course of 14+ years.”

And now he’s available for “relevant opportunities”.

The journalist, his wife Sylvia Jeffreys, and Karl were all casualties in a spate of changes announced at Nine at the end of last year.
