The beauty treatment that's changing lives

From plastic banknotes to pre-natal ultrasound scanners, Australian inventions have changed the world in all kinds of extraordinary ways.

Now, an Aussie master skin aesthetician has developed a groundbreaking technique to harness the rejuvenating powers of altitude therapy to supercharge her facials.

Yvette Hayes has spent a decade testing and developing the Kallos Therapy treatment systems and protocol, which is only available at her Sydney salon, Pellis Medispa.

“We believe this is the first and only programme of its kind, worldwide,” she explains.

“Put simply, a high-altitude environment stimulates human growth hormone, which naturally depletes with age. When you have optimal human growth hormone, all the hormonal systems function better.

“The better your hormones function, the better you feel, the better you heal and the more you can regenerate, at a cellular level. This is true anti-ageing.”

“Pellis Medispa, our flagship store, is a controlled passive environment where we have reduced the oxygen to a very safe but effective environment of 14% (we usually breathe 20% oxygen), which is equivalent to 3500 meters altitude,” Yvette explains.

“People ask about altitude sickness but this is not an issue in our controlled environment.”

Having experienced the treatment first hand, I can’t speak to what may have gone on beneath the surface of my skin – but I can certainly say that I both floated out of the salon after my appointments and have also spent the subsequent weeks fielding compliments about how good my skin’s looking.

Prior to treatment, Yvette sits with her clients to create a complete profile of what their skin is doing, using the ‘Observ’ skin analysis machine, which looks deep within the dermal layers to assess dehydration, oil build-up, wrinkles, open pores, pigmentation, age spots and sun damage.

Then, a treatment plan is created to tackle whatever issues may have been revealed. In my case, this was dry, flaky skin, congestion and fatigue under the eyes, blocked pores around the chin and nose. Or to put it another way: with my 40th birthday rapidly approaching, I was in need of a spruce-up.

Yvette prescribed an OxyGeneo 3-in-1 super-facial for my sensitive, highly reactive skin, combined with a Zen Chi energy-stimulating massage and a foot ionisation treatment to really work on any toxins and illness I might have floating around in my body.

Clipping a blood-oxygen monitor to my finger, Yvette tucked me into the heated salon bed, began my treatment – and I nearly fell asleep right there and then.

Admittedly, I was sceptical. Not only was this the first facial I’d ever agreed to (see: sensitive, highly reactive skin), but it came with a heap of sciencey words which I’ve been well trained over the years to mistrust.

Oh boy, was I wrong. My skin was *glowing* when that treatment was over. And I slept better that night than I had in months.

Yvette says this is a frequent effect of the Kallos Altitude Therapy in conjunction with other treatments.

“Our results have shown improved wellbeing, improved sleep, improved healing (we've had amazing results post-operatively), increased energy, dramatic improvements in skin conditions, and acceleration of therapeutic results,” she says.

I’m in good company, too. Jules Sebastian recently posted a video of herself having a comprehensive array of treatments ahead of the Logies and raved about her experience.

A month later, and I’m still touching my face intermittently to feel how smooth and soft it is. My skin is still glowing, I’m still sleeping beautifully.

That’s a life-changing facial for you.
