Justin Timberlake Broke His Silence Following His DWI Arrest
Justin Timberlake broke his silence after being arrested for an alleged DWI on Monday.
The singer had reportedly been leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York, when he was pulled over for allegedly running a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane.
According to the arrest report obtained by People, the officer deemed Justin was intoxicated because his "eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests."
Justin reportedly said he'd only had one drink before his arrest.
He was held overnight and arraigned on June 18. "He was freaking out and stayed up all night when he was in custody," an insider told People. "He's insisting he only had one drink and it wasn't some wild night out."
Last night, the singer appeared to address the situation himself during the Chicago stop of his Forget Tomorrow Tour. As seen in a fan video, he told the crowd, "It's been a tough week."
"I know sometimes I'm hard to love," he continued, "but you keep on loving me, and I love you right back. Thank you so much."
Previously, an Entertainment Tonight source said Justin was "feeling remorseful, ashamed, and humiliated" — but also "accountable."
The source also said the singer viewed it as a "major lapse of judgment" instead of an alcohol problem.
"This situation has taken a toll on him, but he is trying to view it as a way that he can reset himself," the insider claimed. "He does his best to set a positive example for himself, [Jessica Biel], his family and the public, and will continue to try to learn and grow. He is taking this seriously and recognizes how it can impact his family dynamic as a husband and father, and his fans too."
The source added that Jessica, for her part, "definitely" felt "disappointed" by the incident, but at the same time, "She is by Justin’s side. She acknowledges that Justin, and all of us, are all human and make mistakes."
Justin's next court appearance is on July 26.
His lawyer told ET: "I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations. I will have a lot to say at the appropriate time but am currently awaiting full discovery from the District Attorney's office."
Reps for the singer did not return BuzzFeed's past requests for comment.
