Julie Bowen To Lead Comedy Series ‘Taste’ In Works At NBC
EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Award winner Julie Bowen (Modern Family) is set to star in the NBC and Universal Television half-hour comedy series Taste, currently in development, from writers and exec producers Justin Shanes (St. Denis Medical) and Nedaa Sweiss (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon).
Taste follows the employees at a legacy food magazine in the Bay Area. When the publication is bought by a Silicon Valley tech mogul, its traditionalist editor (Bowen) is suddenly forced to work with a young, buzzy TikTok chef.

Bowen also executive produces through her Bowen and Sons Production banner alongside the company’s president Rachael Field, and Top Chef Judge and EP Gail Simmons, who served as special projects director at Food & Wine for 15 years.
Bowen received two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC series Modern Family, which ended its 11-year run in 2020. She can currently be seen in the comedy horror-thriller Hysteria! on Peacock. Additional TV credits include ABC’s Boston Legal and NBC’s Ed.
On the big screen, Bowen played Virginia Venit in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, a role she will reprise in the 2025 sequel. More recently, she starred in Mixtape and Hubie Halloween for Netflix and The Fallout for Warner Bros./MAX. As a director, Bowen helmed two episodes of Modern Family and the short film Girl Code, starring Jenna Ortega. She is repped by CAA and Liberman Zerman Management.
Shanes is a co-executive producer on NBC and Universal Television’s St. Denis Medical. He was previously a writer on NBC and Universal Television’s Superstore for five seasons, as well as The Late Late Show with James Corden and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. His credits also include the animated children’s series Nature Cat and WordGirl, for which he won a Daytime Emmy. He is repped by TFC Management.
Sweiss was the showrunner for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and served as the show’s head writer. Before that, Sweiss wrote for The Late Late Show with James Corden. Sweiss was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021. She is repped by UTA and attorney Todd Rubenstein.
