Jude Law Just Ruined the Magic of His Classic 2006 Movie with Cameron Diaz,“ The Holiday”: 'Sorry!'

The actor revealed a behind-the-scenes secret of the beloved Christmas movie during an interview with BBC Radio

Jude Law just spoiled millions of holiday dreams.

During an interview with BBC Radio on Sunday, Nov. 24, the actor revealed a behind-the-scenes secret about his beloved 2006 Christmas movie, The Holiday, co-starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.

Law, who plays Diaz's love interest and Winslet's brother in the beloved rom-com, is delighted that the film has become a holiday classic. "I find it just, honestly, glorious," he shares in the interview.

Things takes a turn, however, when one of the hosts asks, "You think we could Airbnb that cottage?" referring to the charming English country house of Winslet's Iris.

"That cottage doesn't exist," Law replies. He's met with a barrage of gasps and exclamations from the show hosts. "Oooh, yeah," he says.

One of the interviewers laments, "That's my dream home!" sharing a common sentiment among fans of the movie, many of whom have long hoped to one day vacation at the house.

Law then reveals the reason behind the heartbreaking bit of movie magic.

"So the director, she's a bit of a perfectionist," he says of rom-com mastermind Nancy Meyers. "She toured that whole area and didn't quite find the chocolate box cottage she's looking for," he says. "So she just [rented] a field, and drew it and had someone build it."

And because it was constructed as a facade for filming, the interiors viewers have long admired have never existed inside.

"So here's the funny thing, if you watch it . . .We were shooting in the winter here. And every time I'd go in that door, we'd cut, and we shot the interiors in L.A. about three months later," Law divulges.

He's met with more outcry from his interviewers, who take turns chiding him: "Oh no, please stop! We don't want to hear anymore! You're ruining it! We can't bear it."

"Just burst the bubble. Sorry!" says Law, who does not look very sorry in the clip.

The news that the fictional home, known as Rosehill Cottage in the film, isn't a real place has come out previously, particularly amid the rise of the travel trend known as "set-jetting," in which tourists plan trips to real places where their favorite movies and TV shows were filmed.

However, the house that allegedly inspired it, Honeysuckle Cottage, is real. As recently as 2022, the property was listed on Airbnb as a vacation rental but has seemingly since been removed from the platform.

PEOPLE previously reported that it was listed for sale in 2018 for $821,000. However, according to the former listing, the three-bedroom, one-bath property in Surrey appears to have sold for $650,000.
