Josh Brolin is reflecting on a candid interaction he had with Barbra Streisand about his drinking.

In an interview published on Saturday, Nov. 16, with The Times to promote his upcoming memoir From Under the Truck, the No Country For Old Men actor spoke about his sobriety and one incident that involved his famous stepmother.

On one occasion before he was sober, Josh, 56, went to his father James Brolin, 84, and Streisand's house and asked for a glass of wine. Streisand, 82, who married James in 1996, responded, "But aren’t you a drunk?"

"There’s nothing I ultimately appreciate more in anybody than an ability to just say it, regardless of the reaction," he said.

Josh became sober in 2013 after he woke up outside his house following a drunken night out, later sitting vigil at his grandmother's deathbed smelling of alcohol. At that moment, he had the realization that he was at the halfway point of his life and wanted to live the second half sober.

"I knew that was going to be the last time I drank," he told The Times. He went to rehab and joined Alcoholics Anonymous.  "I like getting older. It’s like a great excuse to finally go, ‘OK, just mellow out, you don’t need to constantly spin,' " he added.

"I love being sober. I have more fun," he said elsewhere in the interview. "There’s nothing that I go through that I am absolutely certain wouldn’t be worse if I was drinking."

His memoir is filled with anecdotes and insights into relationships, addiction, love and fatherhood, according to publisher HarperCollins. "Grappling with the mysteries of life and death in a way that will catch readers by surprise, From Under the Truck is an audacious and riveting memoir from a born writer."
