Jonathan Knight Politely Declines Popular Concert Friendship Bracelets

Friendship bracelets have become a staple concert accessory, but Jonathan Knight isn’t a fan.

As much as the New Kids on the Block member and Farmhouse Fixer star appreciates the sentiment of popular friendship bracelets, he prefers to abstain from the practice of making and trading them in an effort to honor the earth.

On Saturday, August 24, the 55-year-old singer took to Instagram to remind his fans of his stance and to encourage them to partake in a more eco-friendly show of support.

“You all know how I feel about plastic bead bracelets,” he shared in a post. “Bad for the environment. So I’m initiating… seeds instead of beads. Bring me a packet of wildflower seeds instead to be planted on my farm this spring. I’ll document the experience while I create my yearly wildflower garden that you can be a part of.”

The creative alternative was an instant hit among his followers. “I love this! I’m with you—seeds every day,” one fan commented. “I love this idea SO MUCH!! Wish I had thought of it myself. I’ll bring you some next tour (or whatever is next),” another fan exclaimed. “Such a WILD idea,” someone else quipped.

This isn’t the first time Jonathan has been vocal about his stance on plastic beaded bracelets. Back in July, he requested friendship hugs in lieu of bracelets. “Blockheads… I love all the friendship bracelets and appreciate the love,” he posted on Instagram. “However I prefer a friendship hug instead. Feel free to give them to the other members, but consider plastic is a major issue for our environment. I want to be part of reducing plastic, not contributing to the problem.”

While his heart is in the right place. Some fans are quick to comment on just how detrimental concert production is to the earth. Nevertheless, it’s the small acts that build up, so we love to see Jon’s thoughtful initiative.
