Jonathan Jackson Remembers His GH Brother Tyler Christopher as ‘A Beautiful Soul’

Jonathan Jackson says he is “at a loss for words” in the wake of fellow General Hospital alum Tyler Christoper dying on Oct. 31 at age 50. And yet the five-time Emmy winner found a few to pay tribute to his TV kin.

“My family and I are deeply saddened to learn of Tyler’s passing,” Jackson wrote Wednesday afternoon on Instagram. (Jackson is married to GH alum Lisa Vultaggio, who played Hannah Scott on the ABC sudser.) “He was a beautiful soul with so much compassion, love, humor and strength. I have so many memories both working together and journeying through different seasons of life together.”

As recounted this morning by TVLine, Jackson and Christopher shared many scenes together upon the latter’s July 1996 GH debut, as it was revealed that Christopher’s Nikolas Cassadine secretly shared a mother, Laura Spencer (Genie Francis), with Jackson’s Lucky.

“I consider Tyler a brother as well as a friend,” Jackson said. “It never mattered how much time would pass between us talking, we were immediately present and back where we left off. He loved deeply and had a great passion for life.

“Through all the trials Tyler continued to fight back against the darkness, and be a voice for mental health, compassion and goodness in the world,” Jackson added. “I’m truly at a loss for words. Our love and prayers are with his family and children. He will always be with us.”

Another of Christopher’s early GH scene partners, Amber Tamblyn (who played Emily Quartermaine), also weighed in on the Emmy winner’s passing, remembering him as a “generous scene partner who was always respectful and wonderful on screen and off.”

“This is crushing news,” the Joan of Arcadia star shared on Instagram. “I send my love to my @GeneralHospitalABC family and to Tyler’s family for this tremendous loss.”

UPDATE: Natalia Livingston, the second actress to play Emily Q, on Nov. 7 posted, “I want everyone to know how sweet and gentle Ty was. How gifted, how dedicated, how much he cared about his craft and those around him. I was honored to work with him for many years and admired his talent tremendously. He created such a safe space for us to work together. I felt confident when I worked with him. He made it easy. He was generous. He brought scenes to life with such grace and conviction.”

Mary Beth Evans, who played one of Nikolas’ early crushes, Katherine Bell (and now is back playing Days of Our Lives‘ Kayla), wrote on Instagram, “I first met Tyler Christopher when he was in his 20s….. He was always the sweetest guy… kind and thoughtful. And what an actor! … And when he came to Days of Our Lives [as Stefan DiMera], I was so excited because he was so good and I knew the show would love him.

“My heart aches for Tyler’s beautiful children, family and loved ones,” Evans said. “I know he fought the good fight and hope that he can now rest in peace.”
