Jonathan Anderson Receives Costume Designers Guild Award Nomination for Work on Luca Guadagnino Film ‘Challengers’ — See the Full List
Jonathan Anderson is among the nominees for the 2024 Costume Designers Guild Awards. The creative director of Loewe collaborated with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino on two films in 2024 — “Challengers” and “Queer.” Anderson earned his CDGA nomination for “Challengers,” which stars Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor.
Anderson is in good company with his nomination for Excellence in Contemporary Film. Fellow nominees include Lisy Christl for “Conclave,” Virginie Montel for “Emilia Pérez,” Sarah Evelyn for “The Fall Guy” and Emmanuelle Youchnovski for “The Substance.”

“In ‘Challengers’ the pace is intense, and the characters are, too. As an audience you’re never quite sure who to root for. And clothes are an instrument of that,” Anderson told WWD last April.
“Working on costume for a film is a kind of theater, just as fashion is, but it’s about tapping into a character. So it explores a different part of what I would normally do — and collaborating closely with a director also forces me to think and work differently,” he said.
Anderson is not the first figure from the world of fashion to serve as a costumier for a film. Miuccia Prada went into the Prada and Miu Miu archives to aid Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin in the costuming of the 2022 film “Elvis.” Paco Rabanne collaborated with filmmaker Roger Vadim on his 1968 cult film “Barbarella,” for which he designed costumes for Jane Fonda. Giorgio Armani brought his power-dressing sensibility to Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
