After Allegedly Being Criticized By Her "Dance Moms" Costars For Her Singing, JoJo Siwa Admits It Still Bothers Her
JoJo Siwa may appear all bold and confident on stage, but deep down, she admits she's "very insecure" about singing.
She made the confession this week on an episode of The Really Good Podcast with Bobbi Althoff.
"I am very insecure about singing," JoJo confessed.
"It all stems from when I was younger," she said, pointing specifically to Dance Moms, on which she appeared from ages 11 to 12.
"There were a couple of things that happened where a few girls would say to me, that were also on the show, that I couldn't sing with them 'cause I wasn't a good singer and I wasn't able to sing," JoJo explained.
She said the comments have stuck with her ever since. "It's very, like, old-school, in my head because of what I was told when I was a kid by my peers."
While JoJo didn't name names, she's been vocal in the past about feeling like an "outsider" among the cast, which included Maddie Ziegler, Chloé Lukasiak, Nia Sioux, Kalani Hilliker, Mackenzie Ziegler, Kendall Vertes, and Brooke and Paige Hyland.
She also said that appearing in the show alone was "detrimental" — but at the same time, she called it "the biggest blessing of [her] entire life."
"What's crazy is Dance Moms created such a phenomenon that everyone from the show is in their own way successful," she added in the interview with Bobbi.
Earlier this year, JoJo released a new song, "Karma," her first since launching what many fans have dubbed her "bad girl" era. Unfortunately, the reception to the song was largely negative, with the video becoming the most-disliked music video of the year. Still, JoJo isn't stopping, recently releasing her follow-up song, "Guilty Pleasure."
