John Mulaney and Olivia Munn Announce Birth of Surprise Second Child
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn's family has officially grown by one! The couple shared with the world that they welcomed a daughter named Méi via a surrogate, making them a family of four.
The couple took to Instagram to share the great news, with Munn writing a personal message along with the first photos of her daughter Méi, starting by saying, "Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon🐉."
"I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter," she went on. "When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true."
"I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded. Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese 梅💜," Munn concluded.
The first photo showed Munn sitting with Mulaney while holding Méi, with both parents smiling proudly at the camera. The second snap was a close-up of their daughter sleeping, while the third showed Munn glowing as she held Méi on the couch.
Munn's final photo was a sweet look at the newly expanded family standing on a balcony, with Mulaney holding Méi while Munn kneeled down next to their son Malcolm—who was dressed in a costume with a fake jetpack on his back—to give him a kiss on the cheek.
Mulaney shared similar photos, as well as a video of himself holding Méi as she spit up on him. He joked in the caption, "We stole so much stuff from the hospital. I love my little girl so much."
As friends like Rosie O’Donnell, Connie Chung Povich and Amanda Seyfried shared congratulations, fans did the same—while also noting their shock at the surprise announcement.
"WHAT," was one simple reaction, while more wrote, "WAAAAAAT!!!! CONGRATZ," "I audibly gasped at work lol. Congrats!!!" and "This has shaken my whole week."
The couple previously welcomed their son Malcolm in 2021, and they got married this past July. Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023, revealing the news the next year after undergoing surgery, and she has been very open about her treatment and health journey since then.
