John Legend got emotional as he revealed more details about Chrissy Teigen's abortion in September 2020, when the couple lost their son Jack. In a new interview, he detailed the life-saving abortion that Teigen had to have due to a partial placental abruption (that's when the mother's placenta detaches from the uterus before delivery).

"Her life was in danger," Legend said on the October 23 episode of the "Club Shay Shay" podcast. "She was well past 15 weeks when she had to have an abortion. She was miscarrying and bleeding out, and all these things were happening."

He went on to refute common misconceptions about abortions, saying that after 15 weeks, parents "almost always" want to keep the baby.

"People that have an abortion after 15 weeks almost always wanted to keep the baby," Legend continued. "But there's some kind of complication that came up that they have to have an abortion."

Teigen and Legend shared what happened to Jack back in 2020. At the time, the couple noted that doctors did everything they could to save Jack's life. After confusing a miscarriage for an emergency abortion, Teigen clarified that she did, in fact, have to have an abortion to save her life.

"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we've never felt before,” she shared on Instagram back in September 2020, per E! News. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn't enough."

Teigen finished with a heartbreaking apology to her son.

"To our Jack—I'm so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications," she wrote. "That we couldn't give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you."

Legend and Teigen have four children: Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren.
