There was no way to predict what psychic medium John Edward would say when he dropped by the Build Series Sydney studio, but we were all ears.

The 49-year-old who is based in the US opened up about his career, connecting with the other side and some misconceptions that exist about psychics.

Speaking to host Danny Clayton, John explained that the ways pop culture portrays psychic mediums are often not how it is in reality.

“They all have some fragment of truth to it,” he said of references made in films in particular.

“My favourite movie is Ghost. I love the movie Ghost but it’s a movie based on conflict, so they create the conflict in order to resolve it but they touch upon certain things. And Whoopi Goldberg played a great character,” he continued.

“That was well written, but it’s Hollywood, so they’re highlighting types of tropes or things that are stereotypical.

“It’s really much more subtle than that. Still is cool, but way more subtle.”

John explained there’s a misaligned between expectation and reality.

“People are expecting it to be the big billboard message in the sky or it’s got to be shocking or wow and they miss how subtle actual energy is,” he said.
