Yahoo Lifestyle Joe Burrow gets off to a great start, scores on a long run for first NFL highlight
When Joe Burrow’s strengths as a prospect were talked about before the draft, his accuracy and ability to get the ball to his receivers was always talked about.
Once in a while, someone would mention that he could run a little bit, too.
Burrow, the first pick of the NFL draft and the only rookie starting quarterback in the NFL, had a nice highlight in his first quarter of NFL football. Burrow took off on a designed run, got behind a blocker and cut to the outside and ended up in the end zone for a 23-yard score.
CBS said it was the longest run for a No. 1 overall pick in his debut since Mike Vick in 2001.
Expectations are high for Burrow after a record-setting season at LSU. His main value will be as a pinpoint passer, but he showed right away that he can add something to Cincinnati’s offense as a runner, too.
However, the Bengals missed what would have been a game-tying field goal in the waning seconds, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers 16-13.
