Jessie J hits back at people who ask her if she’s pregnant: 'Stop commenting on people’s weight'

Jessie J has words for people who think it’s OK to comment on someone else’s body.

In a March 31 post on her Instagram Story, the “Bang Bang” singer shared a note in which she wrote about how hurtful these words are.

“Stop commenting on people's weight. Anyone. Just stop. Or telling someone they look pregnant for sure or you look skinny. Just anything. Just stop,” she began. “I see it so much on socials and I know it happens in real life. I have gained 10 pounds in the last six months and I feel great. That’s just under a stone for those who don’t do pounds. It might stay or it might not or I might gain more. Who cares?!? I don’t care as long as I feel good and am healthy.”

The artist, who last year spoke about having a miscarriage, explained that someone “just asked me if I was pregnant,” despite knowing what she went through with her fertility struggles. At the time, the “Domino” singer got vulnerable with her social media followers, and wrote of her miscarriage, “To get pregnant was a miracle in itself and an experience I will never forget and I know I will have again. I'm still in shock, the sadness is overwhelming. But I know I am strong, and I know I will be OK. I also know millions of women all over the world have felt this pain and way worse. I feel connected to those of you I know and those of you I don’t. It’s the loneliest feeling in the world.”

Of the person who said she "looked pregnant," Jessie said that they also told her their thoughts on how she handled her miscarriage, which she called "so strange and so damn bold."

She concluded with, “Not cool to just say or comment on anyone’s body. Unless they / I tell you or ask your opinion it’s not one that’s needed or helpful. Wild that some people don’t know that. Phew.”

Jessie has hit back against body shamers before. In 2019, she posted an Instagram photo of herself in a bikini, and captioned the pic, “For those telling me I have cellulite. I know. I own a mirror.”

Jessie isn't the only celebrity to talk about how hurtful it can be for people to assume they are pregnant. On March 30, Issa Rae hit back at pregnancy rumors, tweeting, "I am not pregnant, f***youverymuch. LET A BITCH EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY."

Chrissy Teigen, who is currently going through IVF treatments, also shared her experience with people assuming she was pregnant.

"The bloating is a bitch, so I humbly beg you to stop asking if I’m pregnant because while I know it’s said with excited, good intentions, it just kind of sucks to hear because I am the opposite of pregnant!" Teigen told fans in an Instagram post.
