Are Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson Separating? What to Know
Both have been spotted without their wedding rings.
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's marriage might be on the rocks. This month, the couple has become the subject of divorce rumors, and both have been seemingly fueling the fodder ever since with cryptic Instagram posts and ringless photos.
It all started when the pop star revealed that she was releasing new music for the first time in 16 years with a mysterious message on Instagram. “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she wrote alongside a series of sexy photos of herself on Monday. She added, “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Almost immediately, fans rushed to the comments section with their breakup theories. "Is this j simp saying she’s single?" one asked, while another noted that Simpson hasn't posted a picture of her husband "in a year."
A deeper dive confirmed the latter statement to be true, with the singer last mentioning the former NFL player on her Instagram feed in September 2023 when she wished him a happy 44th birthday.
Days later, Johnson was spotted out in Los Angeles without his wedding band around the same time that a source at People revealed that the pair has been "living separate lives." "She's working on music and splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville. Eric spends all of his time in L.A., where the kids go to school," the insider shared, adding: "Jess and Eric very much live separate lives."
Meanwhile, a different source at Us Weekly claims that Simpson and Johnson are, in fact, separating. The insider noted that the two are “trying to figure out a separation without disrupting their kids’ lives as much as possible," adding that they are in the process of "figuring things out.”
“Jessica is heartbroken,” the source continued, revealing that the separation has been “an incredibly difficult time" for the singer. They added, “[It was] not an easy decision for her."
The couple shares three children together—Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and 5-year-old Birdie. They met through a mutual friend in 2010 and were engaged after six months of dating. The two married in 2014 in Montecito, California, where their eldest kids Maxwell and Ace served as the flower girl and the ring bearer respectively.
Neither Simpson nor Johnson have addressed the rumors surrounding the state of their marriage.
