Australian model Jessica Gomes has called for more unity following US President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban.
Trump has caused uproar by restricting the visas of visitors from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, halting refugee admissions for 120 days and suspending Syrian refugees indefinitely.
Speaking to Be ahead of the David Jones Autumn/Winter Fashion Launch in Sydey this week, 32-year-old Jessica said: “We all really need to come together and support one another at this time”.
“I think it’s so important for us to be caring of one another as human beings,” she continued.
“I think that we should really be loving one another and be kind and just really having an open mind at this time.”
Jessica comments come after shock jock Kyle Sandilands weighed in on the travel ban, saying he can see the merits in Trump’s move.
He argued that it’s aimed at promoting safety rather than persecuting Muslims.
“We trust government to keep us safe in a country like this and a country like America and a country like Canada,” he said on the Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“It’s not a ban on Muslims, it’s a ban on certain countries…”
Arguing that the “safety of the majority comes first”, Kyle said that making gun ownership illegal in the States wouldn’t “stop a guy from cutting a woman’s head off.”
