Jennifer Lopez Recalls The Struggles Of Being A Single Mom To Twins
Jennifer Lopez is sharing how she relates to her new role in the sports drama “Unstoppable.”
While recently speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actor, 55, who portrays NCAA champion wrestler Anthony Robles’ mom Judy Robles in the movie, looked back on her own experiences as a single mom while discussing her likeness to the athlete’s mom.
“I’ve been a single mom at times in my life and [I’ve asked], ‘Am I enough for them?’” Lopez said in the story published Monday. “And the truth is, all you need is really one good parent to love you.”
Lopez is mom to twins Emme and Max, whom she called her “whole heart” on social media over the summer. She shares the twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The former couple tied the knot in 2004 before later divorcing in 2014.
“You hear it in Anthony [Robles’] voice, and look what he’s been able to accomplish,” Lopez continued while saluting the athlete. “That’s what the movie gave me: You are enough.”
The film produced by Matt Damon and Lopez’s ex-husband Ben Affleck’s production company, Artists Equity, tells the story of how Robles, who was born with one leg, became an inspiration to his mom and the sports community with his unrelenting perseverance.
In the same interview with EW, the real-life Judy Robles praised Lopez for expertly embodying her during her performance as her in the film.
“She was able to really take on how I felt — the highs and the lows,” she said of Lopez. “We long to be loved, and we want something impossible to work out. And even when we see it and we’re like, ‘But I’ve got to keep pushing’ — there’s always a little bit of hope.”
“Unstoppable,” which also stars Don Cheadle, Michael Peña and Jharrel Jerome, will be available on Prime Video Jan. 16.
