Jenna Bush Hager Clarifies Why She's Not Wearing Her Engagement Ring
During her "Social Dilemmas" segment with Hoda Kotb, the 'Today' co-host explained why her ring finger was bare
Jenna Bush Hager is setting the record straight.
On the Wednesday, Sept. 25 episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, the 42-year-old explained why her ring finger was bare.
During the show segment "Social Dilemmas," she and cohost Hoda Kotb were responding to a viewer who had written in about an engagement ring debacle. The viewer explained that they knew their partner would be proposing soon with a "hideous" family heirloom ring, and asked the hosts' opinions on how to navigate the situation.
In response, Bush Hager held up her own hand, which was noticeably missing a ring. "I'm not wearing my ring but don't worry... we're still happy together, but I broke my finger," she explained, referring to her husband, Henry Chase Hager.
The host went on to say that Chase Hager "redid" a relative's ring when he proposed to her.
"I think [it was] his grandmother's, or somebody's... I mean, we've been married a long time," Bush Hager said, before advising the viewer to "figure out a way" to have an honest conversation about the ring before their partner proposes to them.

"Did you ever hear the story about Savannah’s 50th birthday, where I woke up the next morning and one of the stones out of my engagement ring had fallen out?" she said to Kotb.
The anchor continued that she was "not exactly sure" where the stone went and that she at the time, she worried about telling her husband.
"I also had this panic like, ‘Do I tell Henry now, right when I wake up? Or do I tell him after maybe he’s had some food.’ I just said, you gotta tell him right away. And he was…"
"Not happy," Kotb interjected.
"A little grumpy," Bush Hager replied, adding that the stone was "never found."
Bush Hager previously shared another story about losing the ring at a John F. Kennedy airport on the way to a shoot, per Brides.

“I was stressed. I get to the shoot and I’m looking around,” she said during an April episode of Today. “I’m like, ‘Oh no, I had a whole bag of jewelry.’”
Luckily, a "lovely man" brought the ring to security and it was returned to Bush Hager.
“I couldn’t even tell Henry because if I lost our engagement ring, it’s priceless," the host admitted. "So, I harbored a secret from Henry, too, which was hard.”
Bush Hager met her husband in 2004 when he was working for her father, former president George W. Bush. They got engaged in 2007 and tied the knot in May 2008. Together they share three children: daughters Mila, 11, and Poppy, 9, and son Hal, 5.
